across the sea: sneak peeks

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on May 11, 2010 by eyeoftheisland

Things have been turned up to 11 in the LOST command center of my brain (which has swelled to an alarming size). With only 4.5 hours of the show left… EVAR… I’m starting to think beyond what might happen to the characters and what might happen to… me. And this dear blahr-g, with its random thoughts and the 481515623 hits a day from people looking for pictures of the LOSTies in DHARMA gear. The answer for both – as yet undetermined. I will be posting all my thoughts and emotions concerning the finale in weeks to come. But this glorious experiment in internets may come to an end. Thanks, three people that read it! (Hi D!)

I have also made a conscious decision not to watch any more of the sneak peeks. I have not usually minded getting a tease or a glimpse into the upcoming episode, but it has oft ruined some surprising moments (and those two people I watch LOST with are getting  a bit tired of me whispering, “I’ve seen this already” when said scenes air). However, I have posted these below if you care to be teased for tonight’s mythic-centric episode “Across the Sea.”

The episode will be on the level of “Ab Aeterno” – lots of island mythology! And if you want one little teaser… Allison Janney, formerly (and forever?) CJ of The West Wing, will be featured in tonight’s ep, character as yet unknown. My guess is that getting a heavy hitter like that (which Damon and Carlton noted was a big win for them; in fact, when they were talking about the character in the writer’s room, they referred to her as Allison Janney, thinking  they would never get her), she may be playing the mysterious mother of MIB, which the Man-in-Flocke himself brought up in a conversation with Kate.

Then again, he is a manipulating SOB (!!!) so that could be a lie and she could be playing the Earth Mother or something. This is much better than that rumor that Matthew Perry was going to be on LOST. No, really.

Here are some interesting links I’ve come across related to bits of news out there in the LOST-dom, including a link to the most recent audio podcast (recommended) and the aforementioned sneak peeks. I’ll be on twitter later tonight to give my instant reactions. Happy trips
Across the Sea!*”

*can I also mention that my inner 10th grader is beyond psyched that a LOST episode and a Weezer song have the same title ????

my convo with frank lapidus (plus sneak peeks for “the candidate”)

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on May 4, 2010 by eyeoftheisland

hello LOST friends,

i want you to sit down. i am going to tell you some v. exciting/stressful things and i want you to be prepared when i tell you them. you might faint.

i’ll start with the exciting: as i teased last week, i recently had a very special encounter with one of our favorite LOST-ies, captain frank lapidus. how did this happen, you say? WELL, i just so happen to have a very special mother. she is wondrous and sweet and happens to work for an airline at jfk international airport. among her many duties for this airline is escorting VIPs. so when she called me to tell me she was with someone from LOST, i was, naturally, thrilled. but it wasn’t until later, when my celly-telly rang and i hear a scraggly voice on the other line greet me, “hello, this is captain frank lapidus,” that i freaked out. the convo went something like this:

ME: OHMIGOOOOOOOOOOOD.

FRANK (JEFF FAHEY): ARE YOU OKAY?

ME: YES! I’M SO HAPPY TO SPEAK WITH YOU.I HEAR YOU’RE FLYING TODAY.

FRANK: YES, YOU KNOW. I’VE GOT TO FLY THE PLANE.

ME: YOU BETTER BE CAREFUL.

FRANK: YEAH, YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THOSE THINGS ARE GOING TO END UP.

ME: I LOVE YOU ON THE SHOW! YOUR CHARACTER IS SO GREAT! THE WRITERS HAVE GREAT LINES FOR YOU. YOU’RE LIKE A BREATH OF FRESH AIR!

FRANK: THANKS SO MUCH, I’M GLAD YOU LIKE IT. WE ACTUALLY JUST FINISHED FILMING THE FINALE.

ME: OH MY GOSH. WAS IT SO INTENSE?

FRANK: SO INTENSE. I THINK IT’LL BE ONE OF THE BEST EPISODES IN TELEVISION EVER. YOU BETTER NOT MISS IT.

ME: OH OF COURSE NOT! IT’S A BIG EVENT IN MY LIFE. I’M GOING TO BE SO SAD WHEN IT’S OVER.

FRANK: OH, WELL, THERE WILL BE OTHER SHOWS.

ME: HOPEFULLY WITH YOU ON THEM!

FRANK: (laughs) WELL THANK YOU SO MUCH. I’M GOING TO MOSEY ON INTO THE LOUNGE NOW. GREAT TO SPEAK WITH YOU.

ME: YOU AS WELL! THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME OUT OF YOUR DAY TO SPEAK WITH ME!

as IF i’d miss the finale, frank, GOSH. jeff fahey was really one of the nicest guys, and he was actually on his way to africa to do some charity work. apparently he was doing this before he was cast on LOST. to read more about his philanthropic adventures, visit his wikipedia page.

oh, and did i mention i got an autograph?

and now that i’ve brought you up with exciting frank lapidus-related news, i’m going to bring you back down: there are only three more episodes (four more hours) of LOST. EVER. my extended post-may 23rd panic attack is starting to set in. tonight’s episode is called “the candidate” and i believe it is jack/locke centric. i imagine the episode will explore the jack/locke relationship from all of its complicated and pointy angles, including its most recent: jack vs. flocke.  sneak peeks are embedded below:

you’re a candidate

i’m hoping you’ll change your mind

guest stars for tonight include: bernard, anthony cooper, helen, cindy, someone named wheeler, and zack n’ emma. nothing too shocking here, but i know i’ll be excited to see how sideways locke and pops interact with each other. I WANT MY KIDNEY BACK!

happy LOST night! Only 2 more traditional LOST Tuesdays to go before… THE END.

*weeping*

the last recruit: sneak peeks

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on April 20, 2010 by eyeoftheisland

Happy LOST day, everyone!

With only five weeks left until the finale, things are getting down to the wire and I’m starting to have a panic attack. What do you MEAN there’s not going to be any more LOST? No more Ben manipulating, or Jack crying or Sawyer “son of a BITCH”ing or Kate running?! What is this world coming to?!!!

Thankfully, a small gathering of LOST scholars will be convening for what I like to call W.A.A.A.A.L.T. : Wondrous Association of Aggressively Awesome Analysts of LOST Television. This gathering will be taking place on May 23rd (finale day) in the NYC area and will involve tailgating, heated discussion, fine flowing beverages and extensive weeping. Members of W.A.A.A.A.L.T. are encouraged to book their seats early.

Tonight’s episode is called “The Last Recruit” and seems to be… non-centric. I was wondering who they were going to move forward with as now all of the main characters have had their episodes. I’ll be happy to see more team episodes coming up, although a Jacob/MiB ep might be okay too. Not too many guest stars tonight; a few medical personnel, along with the return of my personal Justin Bieber, Dylan Minnette as David.

 You look just like him

Yes, we know she’s pregnant

I also wanted to comment on the promo for this episode that aired just after “Everybody Loves Hugo” ended.

Usually the promo department either irks or inspires me, but this may be one of their best ever. I get goosebumps every time I hear Gene Wilder’s creepy narration from “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” over jumbled images of our characters being swept down a wormhole of sorts.

Actually, the connection between Willy Wonka and LOST is a pretty good one. Currently, I see the Flocke character as a kind of Willy Wonka: a mysterious, yet captivating figure. He’s charismatic, yet strange; inviting but perhaps malicious. In WWatCF, Wonka invites candidates to his secret enclave to find the best person to replace him upon his retirement. This, of course, can be Jacob as well as MiB, the two strange, superhuman forces manipulating humans, putting them through tests, until an ultimate conclusion can be reached.

The audio clip itself comes from the section of the film where Wonka takes the candidates on his funky chocolate river steamboat ride from hell. He sing-songs:

There’s no earthly way of knowing
Which direction we are going
There’s no knowing where we’re rowing
Or which way the river’s flowing

Not a speck of light is showing

So the danger must be growing
Are the fires of Hell a-glowing
Is the grisly reaper mowing

Yes, the danger must be growing
For the rowers keep on rowing
And they’re certainly not showing
Any signs that they are slowing

The image of the tunnel/wormhole is apt here, as it seems we are getting closer to forging a connection between the sideways and island realties. Perhaps by peering into the looking glass, with one’s EYES OF THE ISLAND, one can travel down the rabbit hole and emerge on the OTHER side. OMG gaiz dats ttaly it. LOST SOLVED!

Actually, the connection between Willy Wonka and LOST that I found most intriguing were the lyrics to the song “Pure Imagination.” I’ve highlighted the most significant bits below. Who knew Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was actually a huge LOST clue?!

Come with me
And you’ll be
In a world of
Pure imagination
Take a look
And you’ll see
Into your imagination

We’ll begin
With a spin
Traveling in
The world of my creation
What we’ll see
Will defy
Explanation

If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Wanta change the world?
There’s nothing
To it

There is no
Life I know
To compare with
Pure imagination
Living there
You’ll be free
If you truly wish to be

who you truly wish to be

See you on twitter, you LOST-a-loopas!

everybody loves hugo: sneak peeks

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on April 13, 2010 by eyeoftheisland

And now for (hopefully) some levity! Tonight’s episode of LOST is entitled “Everybody Loves Hugo” (accurate) and is, natch, Hurley-centric. We’ll get to see a glimpse into the luck-laden world of Sideways Hurley and hear the big guy’s pearls of leaderly (and yet still amusing) wisdom that have been developing over this season. I still stand by the fact that Hurley is the best, if the only viable, candidate for Jacob out of all of them. A few theories have been posited that Hurley will become the next RA, a consigliere to a Jacob of the Jack variety. Personally, I’m hoping the ranch-dressing-loving millionaire will get off the island and get a  chance to start a happy life.

Sneak peeks are below. Not very illuminating.

And then we’ll be stuck with it and it’ll be angry at us.

You’re not too busy. You’re scared.

Guest starring on tonight’s ep will be Mama Hurley, Grandpa Hurley,  Michael, Libby and Dr. Pierre Chang (!!!). Catch my inane comments on that twitter thing. Happy LOST-ing!

happily ever after: sneak peeks

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on April 6, 2010 by eyeoftheisland

Cue fog. Cue bagpipes. Cue Desmond episode.

Tonight’s long-awaited return of the Hot Scot, “Happily Ever After”, airs tonight. While the title and the promo seem to be leading us to think our Unbuttoned Brotha may have a tragic fate, I am still holding on to the hope that Des and His Pennah (and the freaking adorable Lil Charlie Hume) have their own happy ending. But, as Eloise of the Scarves told him in “The Variable”, the island is not done with him yet.

Around that time there was a theory bouncing around that Lil Charlie Hume was actually Lil Charles Widmore and that somehow he got transported to the past and is now taking revenge on his father. Trying to make sure Mummy and Daddy never stay together. To stop the suffering of his young self. This is an interesting theory, but an improbable one. I think at this point LOST is mostly done with time travel plots and moving on to more high-level fare. Then again, daddy issues are the name of the game, so anything’s possible.

Regarless, the sneak peeks for “Happily Ever After” are embedded below. Spoiler alert: Desmond sports multiple hair styles in this ep. Must be a LOST rule that if you’re having a flash of some kind (whether it be of the back, forward or sideways varieties), one must have smooth, sleek hair in one of them.

I bet it’s a boy.

 I didn’t have a chance to explain.

So I went to the imdb page to check the guest stars (as per usual) and was immediately assaulted by some spoiler-worthy photos. Shield your eyes if you don’t want to see such things (one tease: orange!). But if you do, I’ll include one after the jump.

Notable guest stars: Daniel Faraday, Eloise Hawking, Pennah!, Chahlie and Mr. Short Circuit Himself, Minkowski. I am very excited about this group.

Lame guest stars: Zoe. Read her recent interview with nymag to see her try to be cool. But failing.

Questionable guest star: Someone named Simmons. Sounds familiar. Will have to do more research.

Happy Desmond Day! See you on twitter!

the package: sneak peeks

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on March 31, 2010 by eyeoftheisland

Yes, the title of tonight’s episode is called… The Package.

Sadly, it is not a Sawyer-centric epiosde. (Obligatory “package” joke complete!)

From the sneak peeks embedded below, it appears to be a Sun and Jin episode (at last!). Will they finally be reunited after three years of separation? Probably not. This show just doesn’t want these two together. Fortunately, we will see the return of Douchey Jin in the Sideways world.

I don’t feel anything…

I do whatever your father tells me.

But in VERY EXCITING NEWS, there are some sizzling guest stars tonight! Not only is Mr. Fried Eggs himself, Martin Keamy, coming back, but a certain long-lost Russian love of mine is as well…

hey baby... it's been a while

MIKHAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Other guest stars (in order of how much I am anticipating seeing them): Widmore, Cesar, Omar, Desk Clerk, Zoe

Happy LOST-ing!

ps happy now, RON?!

ab aeterno: sneak peeks

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on March 24, 2010 by eyeoftheisland

since the beginning of time… i have waited for a RICHARD-CENTRIC FLASHBACK!!!

it’s national eyeliner-wearing day, people! celebrate your richard lvoe by rubbing some kohl on your lids, wearing a timeliness navy button-down and vaguely hinting at just how long you’ve been on this island. the wait is over.

unfortunately, the sneak peeks for this episode are not so thrilling. they are both ilana-centric and don’t reveal anything we didn’t already know. i’m guessing this is because the richard storyline will be so mind-blowing that they don’t want to reveal anything (except for the promo pics from the episode below). enjoy the sneak peeks below, i guess. here’s to hoping that ilana’s not a richard 2.0 (i kinda got that vibe with her covered in bandages and then emerging to do jacob’s work):

i need your help:

candidates for what?

guest stars include two biggies, two ?s and a  bunch of randos: jacob and mib; “isabella” and “jonas whitfield”; along with fr. suarez, russian nurse, prisoner, doctor, the usual randos.

TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT. only eight episodes left! having… heart…. attack…..
